2013 ASID Student Design Competition: Abu Dhabi

This project was based around ASID's 2013 Student Design Competition. The objective was to design a new commercial space for a banking headquarters located in Abu Dhabi as well as create a new branding image related to the chosen concept. My concept was derived from Arabic marketplaces known as souks. Souks contain bright colors, interesting shapes, and archways, all of which I included in my design. Knoll sponsored this competition, therefore their furniture systems are implemented throughout.

Restaurant Facade Design

Façade Design is a project based around creating a restaurant façade on an existing historic firehouse building located in Sun City, California using a specific theme. My final façade was centered upon the theme of a storybook cottage, with a modern edge. Using the famous Tudor style architecture as a base for the design, I was able to create a modern version of the storybook cottage that utilizes some industrial materials, giving it a sense of edginess.

Student Lounge Design

The Student Lounge Design was a project based around re-designing an existing student lounge and elevator lobby space to create a new and unique space with a purpose that the students can utilize during the school hours. Our final design was centered upon providing a functional coffee bar and computer bar area for the busy student body, while still allowing an easy traffic flow through the space. We were able to carry out a modern and efficient design using the elements of line and balance paired with an aesthetically pleasing color palette.

The first set of renders are those done of the existing space, and the second set is the new and improved design:

Classroom/Lab design

This group project was focused on the re-design of an existing lecture classroom and lab classroom in IUPUI's Technology building that are currently located on different floors. Our group's main concept was centered around the idea of having the rooms next to each other with a glass wall partition for a sense of unity and easy collaboration between the spaces.
